The MC-77 is a world fuller and richer sounding than the UA 1176 and in many ways is just an amazing compliment to the TG-1.
I usually use the MC-77 on bass, something I have found the TG-1 is not one of the best tools for that application... however, I have found that when I record vocals through the MC-77 then use the TG-1 on those same vocals when mixing the audio has an amazing ability to just "sit" in a mix like nobody's business.
I usually prefer the TG-1 to most everything in my arsenal when it comes to guitars... and at times it is my weapon of choice for parallel drum buss duties [though I have to say it's been getting less and less use in that application as the Dramastic Audio "Obsidian" has been getting the call for that role more and more often].
In my never humble opinion, both are exceptionally excellent tools that compliment each other in a beautiful manner... but are absolutely NOT interchangable.
Hope that sheds some light.
Peace.
