I've had projects come back from experienced mixers and masterers alike sounding like crap. And I've heard some real crap from "name" engineers, as well (the grossly distorted 808s of the past few years come to mind...think "Thug Motivation"). Some of it can be chalked up to industry pressures (eg - the loudness war), and some of it is merely human error.
