I'm with the whole "leave it to mastering" crowd, but if you DO want to do it yourself, I recommend a 6-octave bell somewhere between 12kHz and 16kHz along with a 1-pole lowpass (or 2-pole lowpass if you boost the bell a lot) set to the same frequency. Some EQs such as the 1073 actually get some of their smoothness from high-end rolloff. It helps boost the highs without getting too harsh. Considering the aliasing problem when you start doing that with plugins, it REALLY helps.

terminal3, i will check out psp neon for this and see if it does what i'm lookking for. so far the v-series VEQ3 is doing wonders, it adds highs gratiously.
