I got over the "music is not the same, all new music sucks" thing quite a while ago now.
There is great new music if you look for it.

As far as the reworking of old classics- well, rock music is derivative on some level.
Reworking can be done well or it can be done badly.
For me, 'pop music' & top 40 has often been rubbish regardless of the decade it was written in.

Supergroups are almost entirely disappointing (Audioslave).

Check out Fall of Troy, Clutch and Cave In if you want some new (or newish) music that doesn't suck.

Either get over it or embrace your curmudgeonliness, sit on your porch in your underwear and tell the kids to get off your lawn.
