You can use the Waves Ren Comp for distortion....crank the gain and leave the threshhold alone....then use a gain plugin to adjust your levels. Otherwise, just about any distortion plug in will do. Cranking a pre amp works as well. Sherman filterbank is ace for this, as there is a clean/distorted mix knob as well as 2 filters in serial or parallel, so you can really hone in on a specific frequency range to saturate.
