This is pure digital recording gear, with no harmonic or other distortion. Surely the motor, revolving one revolution drives the gears which turn the cams which operate GPO Type 2000 relays which in turn rotate Strowger Uniselectors. When the motor stops so do the Uniselectors. A voltage on the centre wiper of the uniselectors passes through the contacts to light bulbs which remain lit till the motor revolves again. Thus the lights record the motion of the motor and the system is not volatile, has no microprocessors, and best of all has nothing whatever to do with Bill Gates. Also they help warm the environment that the recorder is housed in. Hopefully petrol / gasoline runs the motor.
