I believe you're talking about the Saffire Pro, I bought a couple of months ago. The pres are very transparent up to about +45 dB's, but the last 15 dB's of gain have that harsh kind of transistor sound. I never need to gain that loud though. Oh, and the variable impedans feature is cool for ribbons. The converters are impressive imo. I think they've used the same technology as in the ISA428 AD cards.
I dig the Saffire for my portable rig. I've got the Saffire Pro 26, which allows me 16 more channels via ADAT, and it's been rock solid. Now they have also released a cheaper Saffire Pro 10 without the ADATs. The only thing I don't like with my Saffire is the control software, but that's just a tweak at startup and then forget about it. |
