hackneyed and trite any day...

...which is not to say that if it's
simple it will be hackneyed and trite.

Of course I've heard a great performance
and arrangement completely trump a trite
lyric ... so, there's always the exception (?)

Pursuing great work is a life-long pursuit...

I think if you're struggling with it you've
given it the importance that it deserves.
