It's worth doing a test with tubes if you can, Try putting a mic in exactly the same position infront of a speaker playing the same thing and only changing the tubes. The difference is minimal. I thought i heard significant differences until i did this. I put Mullard 12AX7 M8137 (one of the best tubes you can buy), nos tesla ECC803S (almost exact copy of telefunken 12AX7 diamond bottom), NOS GE 6072A, NOS GE 5751 with tiny differences. I would say it's better to spend the extra $$$ on a mic instead of the tube, unless you can get a good tube cheap to try this test.
