If you only had $1,200 to spend, why mention names like Avalon and Neumann? Well with that said, I think a RNP+TLA-50 combo would be nice with a Studio Projects C1..You'll have a nice pre and compressor and a good airy mic to get that sound. The tla-50 is tube so it will round out the the c1 just fine. You can achieve that chain for under $1,200 used easy. Thats my take...Good luck to ya
