Korg Zero8 - more than meets the eye

When I first saw this, ho-hum... another DJ mixer product - oooh... it has a crossfader, looks like a traditional mixer with a crossfade, reall innovation, right?....

But, when I started looking deeper into it, I realized that it does some pretty unique things. The inputs can be configured for analog input, where the fader and EQ behaves like a traditional EQ section (although the EQ section behavior can be changed from a number of traditional setups to true cut and filters for effect) - but the cool think is that this is a full blown 16x16 firewire interface, and each channel can also be assigned as a "digital / MIDI" device connected to your DAW. this product seems to have been designed for Live, but seems like through MIDI setup it could be a nice front end for any DAW - and you don't even have to be into electronic music to take advantage of these features. When a channel is assigned as a digital / MIDI device, the faders, knobs, switches become triggers fully programmable MIDI controls.

This was a very nice surprise to realize what I had so quickly dismissed before turned out to be quite a unique and innovative piece of gear. Its a nice combo of a traditional analog mixer and full featured contorl surface. I'm glad they keep the mic inputs limited to 2 - after all, I'd never likely use a mixer's mic pres anyways. I'm thinking hard and this just might have to go into my workstation... Its supposed to be out in June?
