Check out the Blue ball. The FOH guy that I work with a lot owns one. It has been thrown on several guitarist while I was tracking big band and it always seems to work really well. It seems to roll out some of the low mids so that it cuts through and doesn't sound too muddy or harsh. This might not be what your looking for from your description. I know this mic is fairly useless for anything else, but used on a dense big band mix recording live, on hollow and solid body guitars, it has worked very well. Otherwise I use the 121 if their not being used on something else. Also, a beyer m160 would suit you well as long as the amp isn't too loud.
