Folklore will tell you that there is usually one or two better sounding speakers in each 4 x 12. I find sometimes this is true, sometimes not.
Either way, listen to each speaker and pick one.

I put the 57 either dead on centre or on the outside of the cone, resting on the grill.

I like putting PZM's on the opposite wall as well for an 'ambience without too much roominess' sound.

A bit of a throwaway statement coming, but worth stating.
Take what you have at hand and try to do something interesting with it- you might find an omni works well some days, or micing the guitarists right hand to get some pick attack (I do this a lot).
