| Hey all,
Just wanted to chime in here. I had the mod done last summer. It is SO WAY worth it. To be specific about a few things others asked about as I scanned:
The sound of my whole studio was DRAMATICALLY better. You WILL notice a difference when you get the 002 back, even just playing a CD through it. Stereo imaging, and range and depth are noticeably improved.
I wish I had been able to do A/B tests with an unmodded unit because I'd have definitely put files up.
Regarding the mic pre's: Generally I use outboard, but I would have NEVER used the unmodded 002 pre's unless it was an emergency. Now, I certainly would. The upgrade has made these pre's fat and warm when compared to the original, and I wouldn't be afraid to do sessions on them.
I am a woodwind player, and do a lot of work out of my home studio for other production houses. I can honestly say that the people I do jingles, films etc., for have been making a lot of positive comments about how great my tracks sound lately. I do use very high quality outboard gear,... but I think a significant part of it is the improvement in my 002r. Another writer/producer who has an original 002r always makes note of how great HIS tracks sound when we open them on my system....
It's the best upgrade I've ever done for the $. (I would certainly call it a "no-brainer") |
