Any Portable/Remote Devices That Do This?

Y'all...

Lately I've been getting tons of calls for recording outside of the confines of my little studio...been renting a Korg D1600, but its really not possible to dump tracks into Samp for editing... ... I have researched every maker's web sites, read reviews, sought information, etc...but have hit a brickwall in this.

Anyway, this is what I'm looking for:

- 8 or 16 tracks with both lightpipe and decent analog ins (will use pres I have)
- records to wav format for seamless transfer to PC for editing/mixing
- HD preferred over tape based
- removable drives for obvious reasons

I've looked at both Alesis HD24 and Fostex D2424...but really 24 tracks is overkill...

Any/all thoughts, recommendations, ideas, feedback...appreciated more than I can say...my research brain is now overloaded.
