when i have done this kind of vocal tricks in my productions i assign each word to its own key - i disable pitch, so it doesnt go higher or lower. Then - i do the modulation trick - assign velocity - to - sample start point, and disable velocity- volume, which tends to be a default on samplers. this gives me maximum flexability for stuttering effects. Kontakt is a great sampler for this, EXS24 is not so great, you can set start points for each sample, but off the top of my head, i dont think you can modulate the start point with velocity. A also like to experiment mith AMP envelope release to vary it betweem hard and staccato, and overlapping echoing effects.

also sending vocals out of different AUX channels means we can add special effects, and eqs to different parts
