I have had my fair share of screamers that fake it, I personally don’t like the SM58 sound, although I realise many get sounds they like from them…

I tend to bang them through a large diaphragm condenser, no matter what & teach em how to scream properly…

If that fails & they both suck & blow at the same time, I run a Aux with a distorted amp sim on it, and gate the living hell out of it so that the gate only opens when you really push it hard (a bit like when the fakers bottom out the diaphragm on a 58 cupping it) and then blend it in subtly underneath. This way it sounds much more natural as the distortion just help when their talent gives way, otherwise it’s not audible, especially at the critical start and end of words…

When mixing you can automate is to cover the more sucky parts too…
